I am an avid reader (I actually listen to a lot of audio books and never read) of apocalypse/zombie books. I just finished one and thought I'd post a list of my favorites so far. Mostly just trying to keep my self occupied with something other than TV. If you have any suggestions of ones you think I should read ... errr ... listen to, please let me know. For further self entertainment, i will be adding a brain rating. 5 brains is best.

  The Infection - 3.5 brains
  Cemetery Dance - 4 brains
Day by Day Armageddon -4.5 brains
Beyond Exile: Day by Day Armageddon - 4.5 brains
place holder for third book in Day by Day series - guessing it will be a 4.5 brains when it comes out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" />
One Second After - 4 brains
Pride Prejudice and Zombies - 3 brains
  The Postman - 3.5 brains
The Zombie Survival Guide - 3 brains
World War Z: an oral History of the Zombie Wars - 7 brains (yeah i cheated but this book, especially the audiobook. It's like listening to a reporter's voice recorder of interviews)
  The Stand - 5 brains
  the Road - 4 brains
  Swan Song - 4 brains
  I am Legend - 4 brains
  Blindness - 5 brains
  Patriot - 4.5 brains
  Survivor - 4.5 brains

Deep winter and shattered is the second in the trilogy The short story the bug out is thought provoking and can be found online. Makes you think.

You have almost everything I have liked in this category already on your list along with several more to add to my "to read" list. One I thought was good, but not great was Z for Zachariah. You might also want to check out Feed by Mira Grant. I have not read it yet, but it was nominated for the Hugo award for best novel 2011.
One I would recommend NOT reading/listening to was The Rising by Brian Keene. I have seen it on some other's lists, but I thought it was frustratingly pointless.

I did listen to The Rising ... well, I listened to the first hour or so then turned it off. It will not go on my list.

Great list of books, I especially enjoyed the Day by Day Armageddon books and World War Z.
I heard "The Road" is good, its on my short list of what to read next.

I only saw "The Road" and it is depressing! I hear the book is worse. It really made me think more intensly about survival than I had ever before but, watch it on a sunny day and when your in a good mood...

  I love World War Z

The Road is good, but extremely depressing, its a good read all the way through book. Cormac Macarthy writes some pretty amazing stuff. J

I thought that "One Second After" painted a pretty good picture of how things could become after an EMP attack or other major problem.
