Would love to add a second dogfather to my small kennel, but after seeing the last few go for 300-350 bucks, how similar will the 911 be to the DF? I am inclined to wait for the new one and pick up a pair for what the old DF's are going for.

Thoughts ?

Doc, the blade profile will be different and I THINK someone said or maybe just speculation that it will be 3/16 inch thick. Other than that I can't make any comment. Perhaps someone that was at blade and actually handled one could advise you much better than I can.

I would hold off for the 911.

With the 711 being 1/4", I wouldn't place bets that the 911 would be 3/16....I'm guessing 1/4" for it as well.

I would speculate further and suggest that the 911 will utilize the new Ultra-Convex Bevel.

At $160 or less...you could buy two for the price of one DogFather. I seriously doubt the DogFather can substantiate double the value.

Other than nastalgia / collector reasoning...I can't add up why purchasing a DF would make sense to anyone looking for a user blade.

I have to agree with Ishi, though I dearly love my DogFathers. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Get the 9-11 first and see if you even still need or want a DF.

And if you do I'm sure the price for DF's would be a bit lower when a chopper from the yard is in the store.

I have to agree with MD on this. I handled the 911 at blade and it was really sweet. I dont remember how thick it was, but I think it was a hair thinner than the DF.

I've pretty much said to myself that if I can only buy one knife this year the 911 will be it. I hope Dan stocks up a lot of steel on this release, because there are going to be a ton sold.

When they appear at Knob Creek, Dog Fathers sell at the release price, and are a great buy at that price. However, the secondary market has gone a bit insane -- if I wasn't just lazy, I'd be selling some of mine to realize a profit.

Dog Fathers have a 10-inch blade (slightly over 1/4-inch thick), and are 15-inch OAL; 911s will be a little smaller, but should still be a great chopper. If I wasn't already set for DFs, it would would be a no-brainer for me to buy at retail rather than paying the secondary market markup on a Dog Father.

If it's 3/16" SR101 it could well be the best blade to come from the Yard to date !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

At Blade, the demo was thinner than the DogFather, but I don't remember the exact blade thickness. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
