Hello everyone I guess I'm the new guy. I was wondering if anybody could help me out with some advice. I have a war dog that should be at my house today waiting for me when I get home from work. I'm so excited I can't wait. I was wondering if anyone could give me some sharpening advice for maintaining and honing the edge that it comes with. Anyone who has any experience with this I would greatly appreciate some advice and some general feed back. Thanks again every one! Its a pleasure to be here and check out the awesome forum! My War Dog will be here today and i have a 511 on the way as well. Im also a senior member on the ESEE forums with the same name if any one has ever been on there. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning a lot from you guys! Thanks!

Welcome to our Yard! I use sandpaper and a mouse pad to touch up my convex edges, but some of the guys just use a stone and convert it to a v edge. Whichever is easiest for you. The INFI takes a nice edge pretty easily.

Yeah, I must agree that the mouse pad is real popular around here. As long as you don't let INFI get dull then a loaded strop is all you'll need. O1 is really the only steel that I can think of that is easier to maintain than INFI as far as the edge is concerned. Welcome to the yard!

ITS FREAKIN HERE ITS FREAKIN HERE!!! I had to leave work early to come meet the mail man, I just couldn't wait. I just couldn't. Luckily it was a slow day so I could do that. Wow, I'm so happy! I just kept thinking If i can just make it until this package comes! ha ha. It was 6 days late... Think about how much I was freaking out. Wow. I just made a little IWB loop for the kydex sheath. I generally like to carry a blade in my waste band on the right side of my back under my clothes, and it feels right at home there! Its going to take me a while to get used to this handle design, but I like the way it feels. I like the res-c. I do feel like the more nobbish part of the handle at the very end is unusual to my hand still and that is something I am going to have to get used to. But I'm sure i will grow comfortable with it quickly because I cant let this thing go! What does the tang look like on these War Dogs? The edge is insane sharp, look at how beautiful it is! look at this beautiful 5 inch INFI blade... Look at this knife! Im going to have to post some pics for every one. Its got a nice carbon fiber kydex print sheath for it as well. Oh man... Im sorry, you all must excuse me... This knife and I need to be alone for a while.

I know there is at least one member that has taken some sandpaper to the pommel area of the handle and the pics I saw were quite nice. Its something to consider.

I'm guna see if I can get used to it. I'm already starting to get more used to it. I'm sure I'l begin to feel very comfortable with it with allot of handling, and that is one thing it will def get! What do the tangs look like in these war dogs? I'm having a hard time picturing it. How far down does it go? I cant seem to find much info on this.

I don't know of anyone that has pulled the handle on theirs. If its like others Scrapyard blades, it just extends to the tube rivet.

By the way, join us in the Death Chat, it gets fairly active late at night.

Welcome to the Yard DTOM! I'm pretty sure you have found the best knife forum on the internet.

Congrats on scoring a WarDog. It's a classic blade from the day ithey shipped. I don't have one but it is on the short list.

I don't have any specifics on sharpening or the tang build but I'm sure you will find some good stuff if you search the forum. Theres also plenty of good folks here that will be along to give any info you might need.

Glad to have you around!

Awesome score and welcome to the forum <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

As others have said, strop will work just fine if you don't let it get too dull. Beyond that I prefer bench stones.
