Wow good info and good pics. Just what i was looking to see. I just recently got into using a strop a month and a half ago, a departure from my many stones. I feel like some times i do it better than others. Im going to look at some youtube videos, but how do you guys hold your bussekins when stropping and what angle do you use? Tell me about your approach. I need to improve my convex sharpening w both the mouse pad and s paper but mostly a strop loaded with compound. Every one has already been very helpful, maby you guys would be nice enough to share a little more with me. Thanks! I like it here! The yard is good! Wooooooof!

Only suggestion I have is to go light on the pressure. I used to bear down pretty hard til I figured out tha I wasn't sharpening any more.

201, WELCOME to the Yard! YUP, you gonna like it here. Best bunch of forum folks I have found. As far as mods, I think It was hooker that first put up pics of his Wardog. I rounded the butt end on mine and like it a lot better now. Also I took a dremel tool to the choil and made it a little bit deeper and longer so my fat finger will fit in it. It's your knife, make it the way you want it to be.

As far as sharpening, the guys have some good advice. For myself I changed the convex to a conventional V grind. I'm just to old to change and my diamond hones work on an edge quickly as long I do my part.

You shouldn't need sandpaper unless you really dull the blade, just use a loaded strop and NO pressure, just the weight of the blade is all that is needed, use a thinner piece of leather - it makes it a little easier at first-- don't worry to much about angles, it will come to you,
