Using my advance black belt skills in Google-fu and 2 decade-old memories, I certain the rifle is a Marlin model 100.
I haven't realy given much thought into a bolt action yet. I know I want one though.
I didn't mean synthetic internals. I just want something light unlike the Marlin's all wood and steel.

JJ, not a bolt, but given what I think about your adventuring....you might take a heavy look at the Marlin Papoose. Folks consider them a "grail" of sorts for SHTF survival type .22's. I don't know how much I agree...but they are kindof cool. http://www.marlinfirearms.com/firearms/selfloading/70pss.aspI'd probably grab my CZ if I needed one rifle for long term survival. Marlin 100...that sure is cool. Post some pics if you ever get a chance...would love to see it.

I handled one of those Papooses at the range the other day. pretty cool how it all hides away in the stock. Seems like a great piece of gear to stash in a pack. Hell it would even fit in my Maxped Condor II.

I took tonight off to help Patty babyset the granddaughter. We've got her over night for the first time.

JJ, I think you maybe confusing the Marlin with the Henry rifle, the Newer version of the old AR7 explorer. IT broke down and the barrel, receiver and magazine all fit into recesses in the butt-stock and was "Sealed" with a click fit butt plate cover.

Have you checked out the Henry survival rifle. That is it. It wasn't the Papoose.
