After some research, I learned something new about katanas. I always thought shirasaya was a simple type of sword. It is actually just a way to protect the blade before it has been mounted to a handle, guard etc etc.



I think I have made up my mind and am going to get this one.

I originally wanted to get the Cold Steel NCO Sword that is strong enough to be a user. However, I have a very high quality NCO Sword already and think a Marine Corps themed user katana would be a perfect replacement.

I might be wrong, But I think it is simply called a Storage sheath. In Japan, it is the Blade that is revered, and MAYBE the Tusba. When I was there I went to the Japanese National Sword Museum and saw at least one blade from Circa 900ad. AND depending on what kind of sword it is, will determine if it is displayed edge up or edge down.

I don't know anything about swords, but I like the classic lines of the katana.
