How much does the whole outfit weigh, including everything in the picture?

I read a book or a story where IT happened. A couple parts I remember was a guy that lived in an apartment complex was trying to survive and and THINK he found a katana. And there was also a blind "Samurai" that lived in the mountains and carried a weapon that had a half moon blade on one end and an Ulu shaped blade on the other end. Do you know the name of this book? It's been driving me nuts trying to find it again.

Actually I think the guy was a gardner or something, he was up in the mountains "taking care of nature"

It is the German Army Knife given to me by a close friend who is an infantry Lt. in the German Bundeswehr.

I keep a Falcon in the trunk of my squad. I keep it packed with gear for a night in the mountains. Nothing fancy but before I started carrying it I spent more than a few unexpected nights on a mountainside wishing I had it.
