I am working on an oral presentation about Marine Corps history and need a good excerpt from a speech or something like that to open with. Any ideas? I am currently looking at the Bended Knee Speech presented to the Senate Committee on Naval Affairs which saved the Marine Corps from disbanded in 1946, the War is a Racket speech by Smedley Butler and Major General Graves B. Erskine's dedication speech for the 3d Marine Division cemetery.
Know any I missed?
P.S. I almost made the title of this post "Former Marines" until I remembered this new policy from our commandant Gen. Amos.
"A Marine is a Marine. I set that policy two weeks ago - there's no such thing as a former Marine. You're a Marine, just in a different uniform and you're in a different phase of your life. But you'll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. There's no such thing as a former Marine."
It's not just a saying anymore. Once a Marine, always a Marine is the official policy.

Ronald Reagan made a great Marine quote once. I can't remember exact wording, something about Marines not having to worry about whether or not they made a difference during their lifetime. Sorry I can't be more help.
I wasn't aware of the Commandants new policy.

"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem". Ronald Reagan, President of the United States, 1985. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

What about this one JJ. (I'm not a Marine but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express one night)
"The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps."

Too short. I am going with a few paragraphs out of the Bended Knee speech.
