I am planning on using my 711 and another smaller blade as my primary outdoor combo. I thought I had my heart set on a Game Warden until I found the SAR 3. I figured the SAR 3 would also make a decent skinner, whittling and feather-stick maker. With all that being said and for my intended purposes would an SAR 4 possibly be a better choice just for the little bit of extra blade length? I really want to get in on some of this INFI. Id love to see some pics of yalls SAR's if you have any.

Hard to answer, as personal tastes / daily activities means so much.

I used to have a SAR3 that I EDC'd. It is a great little knife, but I originally intended it more to use for hunting, EDC, etc. Well...my Gene Ingram's just outpaced it, and for EDC, my SS4 makes me feel more secure and still works fine (and the 4" blade helps). The SS4 is a tad thicker...but the mudder grips just rock. Also, a bit thinner folder would make a great alternative for EDC. I guess I just found the SAR3 getting outpaced by others.

For whittling, bushcraft, daily edc, etc...you might consider the CABS LE. It is a great knife with excellent balance. I had one of those also...but chose the Gene Ingram's over it also (hunting priority). However, if you wanted one to do it all...the CABS LE would be a fantastic choice.

You might also seriously consider waiting for the SYKCO 411. If it comes in SR101 and decently thin (5/32 or less), it will be a really wonderful blade. OR, if you want micarta handles and full tang...get it's sister blade from the Swamp (their 411). Both would be considerably less expensive than the CABS LE.

The chief cause of unhappiness and failure is trading what you want most in life for what you want at the moment.

The SAR 4 is a big chunk of steel. I would go for the CABS.

I'd suggest the Rodent Solution over the SAR's. It's probably more attainable, more affordable and would make a excellent companion to the 711, IMO. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I had a sar 3 for a while. some are okay but a the last one I received I didnt like. there the Busse Muk and the other 2 styles of blades with the same handles. but I think a cabs would be a good all around blade to have for what you are talking about.

there's always the ss4 and busse hacks if you want res c with infi.

I've got a Muppy that goes well as a companion blade to my Bulldog, and SOD and Milreg. BUT I am wanting a really good look at the 411. I think (thought) it would be exactly what I was looking for, just a tad longer straight part to the blade, more like the SS4. But it is wider. I think I really need to concentrate on finding an SS4. I probably won't ever be satisfied unless I get one. I also thought about the SAR3 or 4, but the blade is just a bit wider from spine to edge than what I really want. Don't forget to consider the blade width (spine to edge)in your quest.

But take the advise of those that have the knives you are talking about.
