I have gathered that a "sterile" knife is one without the Scrap Yard or whatever makers logo on it . But why are they made that way ? After all the makers mark is free advertising every time someone shows their knife . Are there any differences in one with or without the logo , other than the missing logo ?

I believe most are left over from military contracts.

Also known as military overruns.

That is my belief as well. I prefer knives to have the logo but from a collectability standpoint I think there are fewer sterile ones on the market.

Well that makes sense . Guess I should have known that lol . I think they look better with the logo too , but I can understand why they wouldn't bother putting them on knives for military use . I suppose they might be more rare like you said .

I actually prefer the look of the sterile ones, which is interesting because I don't have any. I did have a sterile M6 but I sold it due to non use. I'm always tempted to buy a sterile Bussekin every time I see one on the exchange, especially the 511 and Active Duty.

The reason I asked is that I came across a knife that I'm pretty sure is a Scrapper 6 that's for sale . But it's sterile , so I just wasn't sure about it as I had not seen a Scrapper 6 that way . As I stated in the thread about grail knives , the Scrapper 6 is a knife I've always wanted (even thought it's not very exotic) so I guess I'll grab this one . <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

"Sterile" knives are associated with military type orders. If a knife is dropped or left behind there is no direct idenity that can be made.

Thank you Dan . That does make alot of sense and confirms that this knife I found IS indeed a Scrapper 6 . So now I will have one of your original and toughest knives to add to my collection .
