Hello yard dogs!
I see that there is a lengthy and quite informative post concerning the contents of a good B.O.B. and I admidt that I have not read through the entire thing before posting this thread, but I was hoping you all could give suggestions on what to use for the bag itself. I'm looking for a good bag to use for camping/hiking etc that could double as a B.O.B. if I'm so inclined. The only bag I have now is an old external frame backpackers unit that is wearing down. I'm looking for quality stuff, but not so good that the price is ridiculus (no Kifaru on my budget, heh). So please, let me know what you've got, what you use, what you like, what you don't like...and pics would be awesome as always

If you are looking for a bigger bag. The internal frame Kelty Redwing 3100's can be found cheaper if you look at last years models. I picked mine up for 50 bucks a few years ago. It is big enough to back more than you need for a 3 day camping trip and is adjustable and fairly well built.
I go the same route with day packs. I have a camel back Alpine that I use for day hikes and I got the previous year model for 40 bucks. You have to do a bit of searching but you can get get some good deals. This time of year through April can be a great time to find a deal on last years cool gear.
I buy good gear but no need to break the bank to get this years color combo. Save your money for what goes inside your pack.

Osprey Kestrel 32 I got it on sale for about 65 bucks.
I was on a thread concerning a BOB years ago and several LEO's had answered that they recommended to get a "non-military looking" bag. They said if there was a crowd of people, like after Katrina, and they saw a guy with all his camo gear they would say "that's a gun guy, lets check him out". My kestrel is plain looking and really well built...thats all I want.

Fair logic, but with so many Alice packs on the surplus market I think those would be safe, put a piece patch or mark it up with a marker, look hip,:) Avoid modern, Molle type if your concerned. The red wings are great packs and a sleeper is the Coleman line at walmart. Not the best but the internal frame is sound, material good and price right. Not a bad pack for bob and the occasional outing. Is it the same as my kifaru heck no but it's decent.

A peace patch means "that guy has weed in his bag" and the LEO's will definately want to check it out The pack fits all I want right now and can handle about 35-40lbs pretty good. I don't have a BOB but I have a Maxpedition Condor in daily use - it's solid. Vulture is a Maxpedition 3 day pack with same quality. I have a big rucksack from Karrimor for hiking, maybe you want to see if the have something for you too.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I've been checking into all the bags mentioned.
t1m0- I had already been looking at the maxpedition stuff but my first concern is the lack of a frame. I've never used a bag like that without some type of frame so I really don't know what to expect. Care to provide some insight as to how it compares?
Thanks again everyone

An anatomic frame rucksack with a good hipbelt is a different ball game compared to frameless packs. I have no experience with packs having a frame outside. Packs with frames are sturdier, heavier and better to carry heavy loaded. Packs with no frame are lighter, more flexible and can be tossed around without a chance of braking the frame.

JG, you might want to look at these guys, it IS Tactical Tailor but at a discounted price. I have the three day assault in OD and even without a frame it is the most comfortable pack I have ever used. http://www.greyghostgear.com/

Skunk- I checked out that site. The bags look nice but they have almost no description listing at all. Am I missing something? Did you know more about them before purchasing one?

Jason, go to the Tactical Tailor site and you should be able (hopefully) to get specs on them.
