do you use mainly full spectrum bulbs and what wattage is your favorite for knife shots if I may ask? and do you have a black box or temp walls for lighting control?

Hehe. I like the look of some of the ring knives, however they are too much of a grey area up here. Customs could see it as a brass knuckle knife and block the import.

I just found out I was a featured photographer on Paul C. Buffs forum. He makes Alien Bee and White Lightning studio lights. I've been using them for years, but the knife pics they used weren't with the White Lightning lights. Mostly natural light diffused with a diffusion panel. congrats Ted, I'm sure it's well deserved Mister, you seem to put a lot into your work

I only use full spectrum if I'm really lazy. I have a lamp with three 100W equivalent fluorescent bulbs. I usually use a diffusion panel over the knives and a white cardboard reflector. I don't use a light tent or anything.

My set up is different than this, but it's basically the same thing. This is SharpbyCoop at Blade, I believe. Not my photo ![[Linked Image from homepage.mac.com]](http://homepage.mac.com/tedwilson/.Pictures/Blade07%20025.jpg)

interesting, and it really works for you! I'm gonna have to take some CNC machine shots in a few months and I'm sure the back round won't be what I want, I will have to do some creative editing!

A trick for large commercial products is to underexpose the background and light it separately with colored gels that complement the product.

I've got 150 w and 200 w flood FS bulbs and a 150 w fluor bent tube on a gooseneck that is variable. I put variable switches on my floods but haven't gotten the results I was hoping for. I need diffusers. And I also used cheap reflectors around the floods, I need to upgrade them too.
