I am looking at a buddies stainless steel 45/70 guide gun. He wants to sell it, I don't have the money. He offered it to me on time, but I think I need to pass. His ex bought it for him a couple of Christmas ago, and he wants it gone, never even been fired

for whatever reasons I only reallly take to firearms in a .300 caliber. may sound silly but if you told me a .300 whatever would work but a .200 or a .400 was more practical I'd probably still want to go with 300.

My favorite rifle of all time is a .30-06. I can hunt big game in this region and not be worried about being undergunned.

You are not alone, many very good rounds die off quickly for no other reason then they are not the "right caliber" In North America 8mm, 33 cal, 35 cal generally don't sell well. We literally have dozens of different 30 caliber options in North America when logical sense would say that really we need less than a tenth of that number

The .35 Remington is pretty big around here, good for whitetails and hogs in the brush. I've never owned one, but I've helped drag out several deer killed by one.

I could easily hunt the rest of my life with one of my 308's and not think twice. The biggest moose I ever shot was with my winchester model 88 in 308. My current favorite hunting rifle is a Rem 600 in 308

The only time I'd worry with a .308 or a .30-06 would be in grizzly country.

I have to say that the Guide Gun is one of the quickest and best shooting brush guns I have ever held. I bought it when I was spending a lot of time in grizzly country. That and a Ruger Redhawk 44 mag.
The Guide gun has a drop in trigger ans sights from Wild West guns up in Anchorage. That thing is a smooth running rifle.

One of the notable exceptions like the 7mm rem mag. Most 35's don't make it. I really like the 358 winchester, but its almost dead, the same can be said for 356 winchester 35 Whelan 358 norma magnum 8mm rem mag 7mm rem express didn't sell much until they re-named it the 280. Hunters are funny

The truth is that the drive there and back is more dangerous than the hunting. Guys that hunt in grizzly country just like to impress people that never have been in those areas. Makes us seem more manly than we really are
