We were at a summer cottage this week. Just arrived home. I got to test my hammock by sleeping one night in it. The lowest temp was 10C and I noticed that a hammock is colder than a tent.

If you use an isulated pad they are just fine. Otherwise there is nothing to keep you warm. You are over air.

I did use an (very thin) insulated pad but warmth escapes upward also. First thing I'll do is use a thicker pad. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I seem to stay warmer in mine. But I use a cover thats like a tent with mine and a good bag. The last time I went out it was right around 35 degrees F and I stayed warm. I wasnt using an under quilt and it rained. Im sold on hammock camping.

I did have a trap over my hammock but the wind blew straight in from my feet end. So positioning was bad for staying warm but I did have a perfect view! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I also used very thin sleeping bag with very light clothing.
