I spent the rest of the day convincing the media to respect the family and not publish a story.

That could be a contributing factor. I used to think that was a lot of bunk, not anymore.
I am glad you were able to "Work with them". The world needs Heroes.

He is my brother and my only regret is that I didn't find him sooner. I missed him by a few minutes at the hotel.

JJ, I didn't mean it as a "JOB" just as a desire to help out your friend because he was your friend. Many times doing something out of friendship, because we want to, goes far and beyond what is "Required" as an actual job. I am glad that you helped him AND his wife in this situation.

I hve nearly killed this bottle of Maker's Mark. I can imagine so. I'd drink one to him myself if I weren't at work.

The worst part was putting aside the grief of his family and my own to convince the wife to sign the papers for tissue donation. She was stubborn.

Sometimes the addition of alcohol will not make the ache go away, only make it more bearable.
I went through a similar situation when a schoolmate of mine was killed on the way home by a drunk driver. His wife, who had their 3 month old child with her came here looking to see if there had been any accidents. The Highway Patrol asked me to tell her. Hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I explained to her that he and I were classmates and I think that simple fact somehow or other made it easier to handle for her, that the news wasn't being delivered by a total stranger (to him) but by someone he knew.
