I've only ever broken a Leatherman (PST) and a bit off the end of a Swiss army knife but It's always struck me folder steel blades are hard and thin to cut well and hold a good edge.. This also makes them fragile and pretty much all of them have to be used with some caution. While some are (much) better than others no folder I've ever seen stacked up to a good small fixed blade.

Poodle, Problem with spydies, the points all break off. I was looking for a heavy duty knife that you don't have to baby. Spydies just ain't in the same class as swamp rats, busses, or the scrapyard. When it comes to fixed blades no question. Talking about folders I disagree, few folders can beat a military. I edc the carbon/bg42 mili and it rocks. Maybe one day when the Swamp decides to sent me the rattrap that I ordered almost a year ago I'll make an unbiased comparison. Besides spydies are available. Bodhi - Howdy and Welcome to the Yard! As far as waiting a year for the Swamp to send you a RatTrap, did you check Shomer-Tec's availability ? Perhaps you could get one from them and cancel your order at the Swamp. Good luck! I've never broken a knife. As far as waiting a year for the Swamp to send you a RatTrap, did you check Shomer-Tec's availability ? Perhaps you could get one from them and cancel your order at the Swamp. I don't think they sell them any more. I checked their page a while back and couldn't find them. Are you sure the Swamp is still filling back orders for them? Have you contacted Eric about it?

Eric knows about it, it will go in the next batch. We will see, but if I get it I will make a review, both knives cost about the same and I'm curious if the RT can take on an experienced maker of folders.

For waiting a YEAR, they should send a freebie of some kind!

Paul, your epoxy idea is brilliant. I think I will experiment with that a bit.

find out who (including/especially the maker)might have a clip that fits or could be made to fit your knife...if you find something that kinda fits,a little filework and the right size tap-n-die set will have you firmly clipped in no time!
