No biggee- my own fault for not moving quicker. I'm stalking a couple guns on gunbroker now. Decided on the CZ 75 compact (all steel with safety) or the CZ 75 Compact PCR (decocker and lighter materials)...will just have to wait one out for a price I like it seems.

I did swap out my sr22 for a nice buckmark yesturday too though! Can't wait to get that out on Friday!

Sounds like you are getting into it, good for you. Don't forget spare magazines though.

Having fun! The hospital census was low so skiddadled yesturday to the outdoor range. Didn't shoot well with the buckmark until I was about to switch to rifle...very differnt than the SR22.

The CZ is just awesome though. Nice groups at 50 yards with iron sites...that thing shoots straight! I'm loving that gun and think everyone needs a CZ!

Have two mags for the browning and 2 for the CZ and will add a few more slowly...

I had a CZ85 in 9mm. VERY nice gun, great handling, fast recoil recovery, never failed. I regret selling it.

Now I´ve fired thousands rounds with G19. Good gun, never failed. But I like more the CZ85.

I remember I have read that col. Cooper said: combining the great 45acp with CZ75 pistol would make a perfect side arm - or something like that... I could easily agree.

Anyway if I will some day buy a 45 pistol it´s going to be 1911 design.

I've had Buckmarks, Ruger 22/45's, Ruger Mk2's, and Ruger Mk3's. I strongly prefer the Ruger Mk3.

Regardless, I've never had much luck with "non target" oriented 22LR handguns. The Walther P22, Sig Mosquito, HP22, J22 come to mind. They're gone and I don't miss them at all!

When people ask me to recommend a handgun for self defense it is always a Glock 19. I carry one daily, and have owned/carried Glocks for around 18 years. I've never once had a serious problem with them. The worst experience I've had is one Glock that would eject casing straight up and back (which meant they hit me in the face or head). Out of the number of Glocks I've owned (and staggering number of rounds fired through them) that one Glock was an anomaly.

So here's what I went with:

[Linked Image from i432.photobucket.com]

Browning Buckmark and CZ75 Compact PCR. Just picked up the CZ yesturday and should get it out to the range on Friday. Feels great and points naturally. Had the Buchmark out 2-3x and I'm shooting well with it. Also had the second leg of the WInchester program last Saturday and am enjoying that a lot too and feel like it's helping. You have to shoot weak side 1/2 the time which seems odd but I think it's good practice- I wouldn't do it as much on my own.

Thanks all for the advice! Now to figure out my rifle question!

Way to go Rich! As for rifle questions, there are a lot of "Gun" folks here that can get you started on the right track. BUT, bottom line, IF you can, handle them before you buy them and make it YOUR choice base on research and feel. But go with either a .223 (5.56mm) or a .308 (7.62mm). And for a shotgun, 12ga would be the most logical way to go.

I'd add 7.62x39mm to the "approved" rifle list.

FIRST CHOICE = 22LR
SECOND CHOICE = 5.56x45mm (223Rem) or 7.62x51mm (308Win)
THIRD CHOICE = 7.62x39mm (M43 Russian)

Must have a 22 rifle to compliment the 22 handgun.

If you're wanting a semi-auto centerfire rifle:

BCM or Colt AR15
DSA SA58 (FAL)
Arsenal SLR-106, SLR-106FR, SGL-21 (AKM)

All the above are top quality and parts availability is abundant.

For the esoteric:

FN SCAR-H
IMI Galil (5.56 NOT 7.62)

Any of the above will outlast you, and will provide generational service.

ETA....for rimfire rifles I prefer:

Ruger 10/22 (semi-auto)
CZ 452 (bolt action)

Funny thing is that Arch and I have been down the same road, kinda. I don't have all the professional classes under my belt but I have thrown a lot of lead and copper down range--enough to that I don't want to admit. After owning many rifles, pistols and shotguns I decided that this is my battery at the moment:
Para FAL
Colt 6721R AR
Savage bolt in .243 Win
Yugo SKS (getting out of lay-away this weekend)
Pre Remington Marlin 1895 in .45-70 (heavy buster)
CZ 452 in .22lr
Dan Wesson Valor 2010 1911
KelTec PMR 30 (proven itself)
S&W Model 17 in .22lr
Remington 870 shotgun in 12 ga.

I can cover many situations/needs with that battery. Now that is not all I have but that is what I would use because I am hunkering in if at all possible. Now don't get me wrong, I can take a WWII Finn Nagant or an Enfield and make it a bad day for someone if I had to, meat on the table if nothing else.

Jeff that's a great list. I've owned all of them except: PMR30, Marlin 1895, and the Valor (but I've had more 1911's than I will ever admit).

Very well thought out, and a person would be well served by Sumo's choices.

Yeah Arch, you Jeff and I have the same CZ 22lr. I like the buckmark a lot and the CZ 9mm looks nice, but I love the 452! I enjoy shooting that rifle so much. Ish helped talked me into that one and I'm so glad he did.

The CZ 452 rimfire rifles are IMPRESSIVELY built and INSANELY accurate. The new 455 don't appear to hold to the same standards, unfortunately.

I think you're going to like the CZ handgun. Outside of one "Nazi Capture" CZ27 that was in HORRIBLE shape when I bought it 22 years ago, every CZ product I've owned has been over built / reliable / high quality with good attention to steel quality, etc.
