I'm sorry for your loss. It's been almost a year since I lost my friend. As has been said, words don't help much, but time does heal. My prayers are with you and your friend's family.

Truly sorry for your loss DogTired! As long they live on through us I think everything is okay though.
I finally got to talk to his mother tonight. A week ago he told his mom that I am his brother. Was something we never have never discussed but we both knew. He is an only child but one day we were on the phone and his son walked in the room. His son asked him if it was his brother on the phone. We laughed and he explainded it but we both already knew by then.
The first thing I did when I found he passed was call my mom. I explained to her exactly why I knew he is my brother. And again we never had to say it...
I'm more thankful for his lasting presence than saddened by his departure.
Again, Thank you guys!

Lazi,
I'm sincerely sorry for your loss. Cancer is an insidious disease that takes far too many friends and family from us.
It sounds as if you had a great relationship with him. This is a privilege not everyone experiences in a their lifetime. Your pain will fade with time, but your good memories of him will not.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and his.

Arch I actually thought about you a lot... It takes a strong person to go through what you guys have to and it makes me proud to see. Hope you are taking good care o yourself.
BLD, He had lymphoma the first time around and he beat that. Was doing much better and I got the feeling he was anywhere from 70%-80% towards the better over the last 2 years. Not what anybody said but that's the feeling I got talking to him.
He got sick again around February. After going in and out over a month they found a second type of cancer that was treatable. I really don't recall what it was if be mentioned it. Guess I heard treatable and just recalled how tough dude is. They started aggressive chemo and it beat him up pretty badly. He went in for the second time and he passed after couple days.

Lazi, your friend sounds like a really tough guy. I hate he lost battle. I recently had a scare and thank goodness my results came back benign. Life is so precious. All I could think about was if I would get to see my child born. I don't know your friend but i'm betting if he was the kind of guy you say he was. Then the legacy he left meant he touched a lot of lives. I hope in the midst of this loss and in the future you can remember all that he brought to this world. I'm sitting in the NICU with my wife right now trying to feed our new child. We were just talking about your partner. Life is a wonderful thing my friend and sometimes it is to short. But its really amazing that you got to share some time with someone that enriched the world so much. I'm sorry for your loss Lazi, but i'm happy you had such a great friend.

Lazi, thank you for the thoughts. I'm doing really well, and should have a better mind to thank God for that fact. This thread will help serve as a reminder this, and to not waste any time because life could be shorter than you expect.

Spent time in a Civil War-era graveyard with my two sons today. We reflected on the tragedy of life cut short but also discussed how the people buried there were all like us at one point. All of them were once little children, adolescents, and, for those who survived it, adults. Many welcomed their own children into the world. And yet, all of them ended up in the same place. Someday, there will be people standing on our graves, contemplating the same things.
Death is part of our experience here. It is part of life and an inevitable step we will all take at some point, not always at a time convenient to us or our loved ones, but the timing is never in our control. Celebrate what we have in the moment but recognize that when we step over, it is not the end. There is more to this life than I think we sometimes recognize. Your friend is not far from you or those who loved him.
