OK... so the Kydex heating temps thread kind of chronicled my second attempt at making a sheath... lets recap....

This was the first attempt's final result last year...

[Linked Image from i997.photobucket.com]

Not unhappy with it for a first go around and I learned greatly from the experience. Still in use on my shed knife and working fine.

After a hiatus of many months due to work and such I decided to have another crack at it (and my Goddaughter wants a sheath for the knife I gave her for Christmas)... decided on one for my SYKCO 311...

Stage 1...

Stage 2...

Stage 3...

And as finished as this one will get...

This one is MUCH better than the first. Took my time and put into play what I learned the first time around. The only "hiccup" I really had with this one was when I was trying to do some fine work around the top to shape the entry/retention and got it all a bit hot. Had to quickly jam it all back in the press to shape it back up. Unfortunately it didn't come back as well as it was at the start, this also caused a bit of a bend down the spine . My edge finishing needs lots of work but I am doing it free hand with a Dremel and polishing head at the moment.

All in all I can say I am not displeased with it but I will never make a living out of it either (nor is that my intent....this is just shyts and giggles for me)...

Looking good Andy. It won't be long before you are looking for a deal on a belt sander. It comes in handy for sharpening to. For finish work I get a lot use out of a 90 degree die grinder and 3 inch rolok scotchbrite discs. there is probably a better way, but that is what this amatuer has handy.

Funny....I have a Work Sharp Knife and Tool Sharpener that I have been eyeing off to use as well...

I did most of the shaping with a big AEG sander clamped on it's side
