I have a 7-11 that I have been trying to get shaving sharp. I started by changing t
From the origan convex to a 25 deg bevel on both sides. I could get it sharp were it would take away some hair, but when I tried to slice things like Papper, food, cardboard, it would not cut so well. So I studied it and what was happin was the object was being cut by the edge Untill it started to rip it. What was going on was that the edge what cut into the object then the object was making contact with the sides of the bevel and being forced apart like a wedge this is where it started to ripe. So I then thought to myself. I needed change te bevel to 20 deg each side. So back to my smith system. I stared to knock down the shoulder and as the ange started to apoch the edge I thought to myself. I should leave the edge at the 25 deg to keep it strong and know that I knock down the shoulder it should help. So I stoped I have a strop with green compound on it so I strop it then check to see the progress. Wow the edge is hair spiting sharp I can now slice very well with it. I have learned a lot about sharpen over the last year. When I first started to hear about micro bevel and first and secondary edges I was like I'm way out of my league. Now with just a little bit of ready and advise from this and other forums. I'm very proud of the edge I can put on a knife. The best part is sofare I have less the $50 into supplies. So I have some new paste coming in the maill this week to try to get this thing polished up. It is much more rewarding to learn and do it yourself then send it to somone. My next story will be about shealth maken witch thanks to Busse kin for not selling there knives with one is also something I've been working on witch is very rewarding. Sorry so long.
