I don't know much about metallurgy, but I know that leaf-springs are pretty good steel and used by many knife-makers around the world.

I think 1095, 1084, 1075 steels are used for leaf springs...

I think I read somewhere that old Mercedes trucks' springs were considered one of the best sources of knife steel
