It was a Chinese chef who picked up the mushrooms... somewhere along the road from home to work. It was him and two others working in the same restaurant and my 'friend' who ate the mushrooms...

I thing the Chinese guy mistook them for something that looked like what he used to eat in China.
From what I've read it was more of a delicacy, not attempt at bending reality...

Well in that case I can see an honest mistake being made. BUT the guy that lived should take this as warning, were if there is ANY question about almost anything, to err on the side of being safe. If there is a mad slobbering dog tied up on a thin rope, cross over to the other side of the road to get to your destination.
