You guys gotta look at a CZ 452 for a 22LR, that things shoots lights out for the price point....

I think that Monkey Bomb has a CZ 22. Not sure which model though.

My reasons for kydex vs leather.....

-Leather loses it's rigidity over time leading to difficulties reholstering.
-Leather has a slower draw due to more friction.
-Leather absorbs and holds moisture.

Ok, let's see.
1. NOT if your IWB holster has a steel reinforced mouth.
2. Get one that has a boned inner surface, super slick and if they treat it like some knife sheaths, plenty stiff.
3. Again, get one and treat it with something like snow seal or something like that.

Not trying to tear your observations apart, they are all accurate, just listing ways to make the kydex advantage not so great.

leather is more personal/warmer for me.. if that makes sense.

don't forget cost.. kydex is cheaper and has all the above features

They make a 16" bbl CZ 452 22 LR.....

There is no reason to have a barrel over 16" in a 22LR, the powder is burned well before 16" and you actually lose velocity by going longer than that....

AFF and BadnArder, both your points are valid and I am not really knocking kydex just showing MY personal favorite. I have leather and kydex for some of my knives, for different purposes. Kydex if it's a grab, shove into your belt and go and if it will get banged around some. For comfort and ease of carry (for me and my fat gut) leather. Oh and looks too.

In fact, shorter and fatter barrel profiles are always preferable to long and skinny barrel profiles.... up to a certain point anyways.

The decrease in velocity in centerfire rifles w/ short barrels doesn't affect long range accuracy as much as you would think. The barrel harmonics are of more importance which is why the short fat barrels are preferred.

I agree with you. I too have both. I guess it depends on my mood on what i carry. I do use kydex mostly when I carry my knife in my pack. There are a lot of city people on trails which are close to me and I do not want to appear aggressive to them. However, I always take a large knife, just in case..

I would much prefer a shorter barrel.

Originally I was going to have my Remy 600 rebarreled to a heavy 20 incher. I talked to the custom shop and they asked me what I was wanting to do. At the time I was on our home town PD (5 officers) and I was single so thought I would get the Police sniper package (BIG BUCKS) so then thought I would just rebarrel my 600. The guy told me that when they got a call for a police sniper package, they got a barreled action down off the rack, slapped it into a synthetic stock and there you go. He THEN said if they got a call for a VLS rifle they got a barreled action down off the rack, slapped it into a laminated stock and and there you go, for SEVERAL hundred dollars less. So I ordered the VLS.

I like my mohawk too Bill, GREAT little carry rifle. I Traded a guy an XP-100 .223 pistol for it. Now that pistol would shoot, MAN would it shoot. But I wanted more than just a single shot. Now if it would have been a repeater, I would still have it.
