I agree. people make the place not the other way around. great knives definitely help but they aren't the only reason. People on the USN often say come for the knives stay for the people. I have a feeling this great place will be the same!

I always keep a fresh (aged) bottle on hand. Never know when it might be needed.
Your statement reminds me of why I like Maker's. They don't age their whisky to make it old. They age it 'til it taste right. Are you an MM Ambassador?

Living in the city, there's not a lot of area to take blades without scarring the pants off the city-folk.

I make a makers mark syrup that is absolutely amazing. it's probably the best stuff I have ever tasted on pancakes <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I was never in the navy. Army Infantry all the way for me. that is where I got my obsession with fixed blades that would stand the test of time. the army never gave me the right tool for the job so I had to search out that tool that could handle most any job. hence my obsession with hard use knives! Before every deployment, we get a choice of multi-tool (Gerber or Leatherman) or benchmade automatics. I think the tools are better than fixed for deployments even though I bring a fixed.

To be fair, I think most places put a lot of thought into which barrels get picked for what age and what label. Hence so many different brands from the same mash/still/warehouse.

The MUT may be the best tool offered. The Spax is not the most useful tool and Mil. Issue Benchmades I hear are not as "good" as the stuff on the open market. What say you?

Woodford has been my goto for many years, but now that they are going commercial and mainstream with television ads, I'm losing interest in one of my favorites.

Hahahahaha they are a illusive creature to say the least. I agree a multitool is a amazing thing. I gave up on gerber though as they broke long before we deployed with them. I'm out now but I served for 6 years. 2 in Iraq and I in Afghanistan. I broke a lot of knives and tools over there. also made do with some stuff where other tools fell very short!

They are the same. I have a few issued ones and they are identical to my non-military (he is law enforcement) friend's blade.
I have the MUT and it is great. I picked it the first deployment. Still use it.
