We all probably know they make the blade lighter, can help balance a knife, increase penetration and allow for easier slicing.....

Are there any downsides to a swedged spine??? Any more advantage to them???

The last question is whether you prefer a swedged spine or not..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Swege usually refers to clip area, on clip point blades, and a clip 'imitation' on other types for increased penetration. I definitely would not 'swdge' the whole spine ( maybe with exception of dedicated fighters)
Just my 2 cents...

Like if you had to use it as a draw knife...

I had medium sized all-rounders in mind.

Take this Custom Shop Ratmandu for example.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I find an unsharpened swedge visually pleasing on any knife. But if batoning or prying is probable, none for me.

I'm with hook on the looks side. I don't think I would have a sharpened swedge unless it was on a fight blade. I do like the swedge on utility blades and but as already pointed out maybe not the best idea if you plan to baton a lot. but I would do that rmd if it was mine and I could do it.

now you have me thinking about a rodent 6 with a sharpen swedge. want it...
