The place we stayed at in Banff was called Johnston Canyon and is located between the town of Banff and Lake Louise.
There are lots of hikes to do right on the doorstep, this was one such hike~

This hike begins very civilised as you walk along a series of walkways following the limestone canyon carved by the flow of water over the years.

It doesn't take long before you reach the lower falls, here the water plunges 10 m (33 feet) into a deeply carved pothole below~

From here you continue the trail following the water all the time~

Eventually you reach the upper falls where you find water cascading down more than 30 m (almost 100 feet). At this point, the trail leaves the creek and widens on route to the Ink Pots.

Once on the trail to the Ink Pots you leave all the tourists behind, with so many grizzly sightings in the area I found it a little unnerving at times.
Anyway after some huffing and puffing we arrived at the marvel of nature known as the Ink Pots !

I sat and caught my breath before heading back !

I loved the scenery along the river. The ink Pots, they are ok, but the trail along the river is awesome!

Amazing scenery, and great pics.
Looks like it was worth the road trip.

Great pictures. I spent a week in Banff in 2005 and Johnston Canyon was really something to see. The waterfalls were incredible.
