I had the pleasure of having drbarnes come visit me last week. He brought a show and tell bag full of some of his favorite Steel (enough to make your jaw drop). We only had about an hour of woods time, so we packed up a few Busses and some of his Comp Choppers. (Wish I could've taken pictures, it was a blast.)

My favorite of the comp choppers he brought really struck a cord with me, the David Wesner Custom that drbarnes designed. It chopped so brilliantly and was so comfortable. The only thing I could think about is how awesome it would be if Scrap Yard produced a blade a lot like it.

With SR-77, Dan's styling and all the other aspects that make Scrap Yard knives so great, a blade profile similar to this at about 13" with a similar blade height and Regulator Handles would be the makings of my dream FDM.

Here's the Wesber Custom (not the HI Khuk):

On another note, I also wanted to share the centerpiece from David's Show & Tell: The Large Case Sword (second one down). Man what an awesome piece of steel - so refined and just plain lethal.

What do you all think?

Very nice!

I'm glad he finally scored a 171.

The 171 was great too, but the Wesner beat it in performance in my opinion.

I actually had a little talk with Jeff(Rainwalker) just the other day, and he came up with these possible reasons:
1: to make blood and sap run off the blade, and not on to the handle.
2: to ease sharpening at the base. Much like a choil.
Also some ceremonial reasons
3: it is a symbol of a cows foot
4: it is a symbol of a cows teat
Cows are sacred in Nepal, and to the Hindu in general, so therefore the symbol tells, that the kukri is not to be used to kill the cow.

Makes sense to me, as I had wondered about it also.

I have read several "Theories" on why it is there an what it means. My conclusion is that nobody really knows FOR SURE.
