Hobbes the power going out is actually what gets you. I was just about to post in horn dogs thread. you need to gas up and have gas in a can, lots of water, and cash on hand..

you may be able to walk somewhere to buy food but if the power is out there's no ATM or debit. after 2 weeks you may find you need to buy ice or even something as big as a generator. even chain saw just to be able to get of your own street.

things can get pretty crazy and days can get pretty long... imagine needing half a tank of gas just to be able to fill up! it happens... crazy but when it gets bad people lots people will run out of gas in a long gas line. even the fuel trucks can't get in with more gas..

TEOTWAWKI. Probably not. Its a great reason to be prepared though. Enough food water and supplies to make it couple of weeks should be a no brainer.

If you camp and lay back a bit of supplies out of habit you should be fine. Its nothing to scoff at or blow off. Its also a fact of life. Every portion of the U.S. has some type of severe weather that happens. At least occasionally.

I think the US in general has been better prepared over the recent years if nothing else because of the poor preparation by many during Katrina.

A lot of people wont be ready. Probably dont have water or food put back. Wont know what to do without power. I hope Im wrong but this could be bad.

Starting to really blow up around here. Heavy rains and a lot of wind. I'm hearing that this is just the beginning though. Wish I had my 1311 for the clean up I know is coming. Just have to make do with my hawk.

We don't get anything like that where I live. What out major things are is massive snow storms but they are fairly rare. We will also get high winds occasionally which will knock out power for a while. The rare tornadoe. Other than extremely low temps on occasion its not bad.

The hardest part about massive snows isn't the snow but it shuts thigns down for a few days and it holds up shippments of food and fuel. Kind of a ripple effect.

If the power went out for a few weeks in the winter it would be ugly but livable as long as you prepare with water and a heat source you would be fine in the winter.

I went and did some diet work on my sled.



I cut all the round holes in it on both sides now I need to go from underneath and open up all the diamonds. It really packs with snow that then turns to ice and makes it hard to stay on, so I am trying to make enough spaces for the snow to fall through.
