He thinks I can sleep through anything, like he does. But as I've gotten older I sleep much lighter, and I can't sleep through him rummaging through the fridge or slamming the microwave door.

Yeah, I know. But at least you only work 8 hours at a time. I'm not sure which I prefer though.

On one hand, 8 hours a day goes much quicker. But on the other, working 12 hour shifts you get more days off.

BUT working nights on 12 hour shifts, the first day you're off you sleep most of it, so you really only get one day at a time off.

I've worked 12s here before for quite a while. I prefer 8s.

When we merge with EMS and Fire next year, we may end up on 8 hour shifts. Not sure yet though.

The Sheriff we've had for the last 8 years has said he won't put us on 12s even if he has to work some shifts, and he has.

I'm not looking forward to that at all. I found out a while back that we were going to have to re-apply for our jobs.

Thats nice of him to help out. I think the world of our current sheriff, but he wouldn't do dispatch. If he had to help out, he'd work the road and have a deputy sit in here.

There was talk once about us consolidating with ems. It would be nice, man have they got a nice facility, but just wouldn't work for us. We need to be co-located with/in the jail and the EMS facility is only a few years old.

Our Sheriff did dispatch for about 4 months while he was recovering while working as a deputy.
