My experience with the Knob Creek pre-show (night stalker sale) since Jerry announced that it's officially open to anyone who shows up, is that more than 1/3 of whatever the Busse crew brings to town is typically sold that night. Some very good stuff still makes it down to the range, but any rare, high-demand blades will be gone before the Knob Creek show opens. I've seen folks spend well into 5 figures and have been known to buy quite a bit myself, although I'm not a major player compared to some and have been "cutting back" significantly on my knife spending in the last year.
In my opinion, it's well worth the effort to arrive a day early and get in line at the Golden Manor motel for the pre-sale. The line starts forming quite early because some folks come in the day before the day before, so they'll be on-site that morning. I haven't made that effort, but I normally take vacation so that I can get into line a few hours before the doors open. I will probably attend again this Fall, but I haven't scheduled any time-off yet and am uncertain about exactly what I'll do right now.
