Heya dogs,

So an update on the present to my lady for her birthday: I bought a sage Swamp Warden and ordered the Turqoise Ambrosia and Orange Liners to make the handles. I am excited to see what the finished product looks like.

I was just talking to a friend about what to do about a sheath. He made a good point that a leather sheath would be much more appropriate than a Kydex sheath, given the way I am customizing this blade. I definitely agree.

Here's the issue. Time is a big factor in all of this. I'd love to send it in to Jeff for a sweet Randall style pouch with turquoise inlay, but that is not an option.

I have two ideas.

First of all, I could buy a kit from somewhere and give it a go myself. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be very good at it though. Also, that will be added time.
Secondly, I could try to find a generic leather sheath that fits it well enough for the time being while I can work on making my own.

What do you think the best way to go would be? Does anyone know where I should look for generic leather sheaths? The stores near me never carry sheaths for some reason, so I would have to order one online most likely.

Thanks in advance!

I would just goto a few of the knife websites out there and search for something that looks like it would work.

there are a lot of good options out there, not GREAT ones like the custom leather you can get, but lots of good ones.

Sounds like it's gonna be a great gift either way! My suggestion is to give it a go at making your own sheath. May not be perfect but it will be something that you did yourself and maybe you can put her initials on it or something.

You can always get a custom one from Jeff for her on another occasion. From the looks of it, seems to me like you might as well put a pocket on that sheath for a ring too! I'm just sayin'. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

How much thicker is the handle compared to a standard game warden? When are you giving the knife to your girlfriend?

Ha. A ring. Not a chance. This is a fairly new relationship, but she means a whiole lot to me. Plus, I really like doing nice things for people and giving nice gifts. I'm still way too young to get married anyways.

Her birthday was this weekend, so it's already overdue. I gave her a few other gifts on her birthday, so I do have some time, but we are planning on going camping soon and I don't want to give the Warden to her 3 months after her birthday.

Since I haven't made the handles yet, I'm not sure how thick it will be. I would assumed that a sheath made for the Game Warden would be perfect.

Thanks everyone for your help!
