According to the US Census Bureau there were 33,808 traffic fatalities in the US in 2009 alone. Vehicles cost lives.

All these lives could be saved yearly if people adopted other modes of transportation, like walking, public transport and bicycles.

These privately owned vehicles are an outrage and must be stopped. We suggest a gradual approach where we ban more and more classes of vehicles every election term until we reach the goal of having no more privately owned motor vehicles in America.

Initially this could center around the more scary looking vehicles, let us term them "Assault Vehicles" for convenience. These "Assault Vehicles" will be classified as having certain features that would appear to be menacing or dangerous in order to more easily make the public detest all personal vehicles in general over time.

These initial features could be:

* Tinted windows
* Certain colors such as black or red
* Fuzzy dice on the rear view mirror
* Rims over a certain size
* Corners and angles on the bodywork less than 110 degrees
* The ability to reach speeds in excess of 55Mph
* Motorcycles

This would impact a limited segment of the population that are generally distrusted by the remainder of America, even other vehicle owners. As such it will be a welcome initiative to all but a select few who do not need these kinds of vehicles in the first place in order to go about their daily lives.

In the longer term this ban will lay the groundwork for adding more colors, smaller size rims, more obtuse angles and lower maximum speed limits, until such a time as it is impossible to manufacture a personal use vehicle that comply with these standards.

Some suggested terms for future classes are:

* Death Vehicles (hearses)
* Crashing Vehicles (2 seater sports cars)
* Smashing Vehicles (cargo vehicles over a certain weight)

We will then have the option to completely outlaw vehicles that have already been grandfathered in on account of their production/import year, on the grounds that this ageing fleet of vehicles is no longer up to current safety standards. Another option to completely remove the existing fleet from the roads at this point would be to just outright ban gasoline and diesel fuel for use by private citizens or make the production of these fuels near impossible with environmental regulations.

Obviously government entities, emergency organizations and public transport authorities will not be affected by this ban and some traffic fatalities will still occur from the use of these vehicles, but we believe many lives will be saved by taking untrusted and unintelligent private citizens out of the equation.

Thank you for listening comrades.

Sad but true they are already making the angles more pedestrian friendly. Higher more blunt designs I wish I was kidding. Oh and tinted windows and things hanging from the rearview are illegal in many states already.

greaser: Disturbing, I was clearly trying to parody something else here, I didn't realize how true it was!

lazi: A picture speaks volumes, but at least those guys still have "assault weapons"

I'm not a fan of anyone restricting my freedoms in my beloved country.

That's about the same logic they apply to anything they want to ban/confiscate and it's just plain wrong to infringe on our freedoms that way.

Reading the list of features made me think we would eventually all end up like Japan which is full of vehicles like this, sans oversized atv tires.

For perspective... the same japanese 1/2 ton pickup in the back of an American 3/4 ton longbed.

But after reading the qualifier list, I am glad to know that at least Old Blue would be safe, although they may not allow the mustache.

As things continue in our "Enlightened" world, don't be surprised that if this doesn't come to pass at some future date.

YUP, Seen MANY of those Japanese 1/2 ton trucks, and vans and.... 4 years worth of it, and it was good duty!

IF "Old Blue" is a 1953 GMC, I had one as me first vehicle!

Around where I live, I wouldn't envy the poor schmuck that tried to come confiscate any kind of private property. They don't call Montana the Last Best Place because it's full of pansies... it reminds me of the way many other places were when I was kid guns, trucks and outdoor lovers everywhere.

I have been told Old Blue is somewhere between a '51-'53 with the old GMC guys leaning toward a '51. It's a neat old all original rig that has aged pretty well between ID & MT. I have a small fleet of old GM stuff at my place. Some for nostalgia, some for fun, and some just because I can.

I can't tell from the picture, but Mine had a PUSH UP hood Scoop! YUP, there was a lever inside up under the dashboard. You raised the lever up and a "Scoop" would rise up in the cowl area between the windshield and the hood allowing fresh air into the cab area.

That sounds pretty sweet. I'll have to check when it's daylight. It's a big old 450 series flatbed with the wider fenders, so I don't climb on it as easily this time of year. Had snow twice already since Monday. I picked it mainly for the big old brownie auxiliary transmission it has even if I couldn't get it running... all for the price of two 1311's.
