To me, it is exactly in the mid range blades, 4-6", that I find the choil most usefull.
But this is the never ending debate... Each to ones own!

A wide, 3/16" thick, blade will be something new from the Yard. At least in the 6" range...

This really is a never ending debate. I´ve never understood your opinion about the choils in mid sized blades and I think I never will. All the same I will respect your opinion and I mean no offence with my writings. I think it would be great to have the option to choose if you want a choil or not. By the way; I liked the 1311 choil... In my opinion it was just the right size for a blade like that.

HOW DARE YOU!!!!!
No doubt, I have spent too much time under water.

Given an potion of choil or no choil would probably result in me buying both.
A choilless blade is by no means a spoiled blade for me.

Excellent point, GD! This also applies to any knives that may be potentially used for self defense.

The 411, SS4 and Scrapper 5 SE would have made great fighters if they had no choil, but sadly they all came with a choil.

A choil simply has no place on a fighting knife as anything that could potentially hang up on clothing will likely do so. This is along the same lines as carrying a gun for self defense that has been proven to have a high rate of malfunctions......

IF Dan designed a 611 which featured a choilless Boss Jack type blade on a mudder handle, it would likely be the best fighter released to date by any of the Busse Group.

Especially if it featured the same grind and thickness as the Scrapper 5 LE.....

you getting in a knife fight??? bring a gun!!! i think that most of the blades from the kin would kill something just fine. it the little tasks like wittling and such hat i dont need a choil on a small knife for.

Never been in one and hope to never, but there is a place for knives in self defense.....

Mainly at belly to belly ranges where a gun may not be as effective.

I also know that I always have a knife on me so the potential is always there.

It won't do you much good if it snags on some heavy clothing and you lose control of it.....

I was simply further defining one of the many reasons why a choil should not be desired in a knife....

I believe there's far more reasons against them then there are for them.

I get your points on selfdefense, I just personally never think along those lines when buying a knife.
Bushcraft tasks are my main thing.

Only read the last page, but I can't stand choils on smaller knives, heck, I'm glad my Zilla doesn't have one.

Aside from that conversation, can't we wait till the rest of of have our 1311's before we start talking about other models!!!! Last I heard was, the remaining 1311 will be shortened to 8" due to lack of SR101. Bad news I know, but what to do...?
