To my understanding, I believe it would likely only be the thinnest part of the edge that would be annealed.

This would likely result in a quickly dulled edge with use, but by sharpening again on a stone you should be able to perceive an immediate improvement in performance regarding edge holding once you've removed the annealed metal.

IF this was the issue, it would make sense that you are seeing it on a thinner stock knife as the thicker stocks would be harder to anneal at the apex of the edge.

The edge angles on the 411s I got are EXTREMELY WIDE!!!

Gun dog, I was wondering how they carry, I know AFF explained some of that already. I like the fact that the 411 has a usable choil. How are the ergonomics of either? The handle for the 311 is the same for the 511 right? How do either compare with whittling or fuzz sticks? Just general usability questions. Maybe reviews if you will. DT says go for the 411 and that's what I'm leaning towards. I would use either as a companion to the 911.

One of my RSs has a killer convex edge put on by the previous owner and it works well...!!! I will probably convex the 411 I am giving my Godson for Christmas and I have no doubt he will have skinned something with it by the 26th of December....LOL

I got timed out so my long review got taken away. The edge of the 311 is .0015 thinner than the 411.
311= better slicer 411= longer edge to work with 311= smaller to edc 411= more knife to use

I also have had the same experience. When I first started using my 311 it would not hold an edge worth a darn. I was actually pretty disappointed. After around three good sharpenings with diamond stones it now holds a great edge.

I now have the 411 and love it but the factory edge did not last long while whittling wood and I have as of now sharpened it only once. I haven't used it again yet, but I suspect it will be the same situation as the 311. After a couple of good sharpening it will get down to the "good" metal and begin holding a sharp edge for a lot longer time.

I really was fond of them, as they are very handy and easy to carry blades.

I wore the Scrapivore as a necker for majority of the time, it seems ideal for neck carry as it does not have scales to add width....

It also carried extremely well on the belt, you don't even realize you're carrying it until you reach for it. I will add though that it does have the potential to injure you when carrying this way because of the pry-bar pommel.

I really liked the handle shape, it fit my handle perfectly and was not uncomfortable to use for lighter cutting tasks. I never really pushed it very hard though, and I'd imagine it would not feel so good for more abusive tasks. I never cord wrapped mine because the Mashed Cat sheath wouldn't really allow for that without modifying the sheath. I'd imagine the handle would feel/work great with a good paracord wrap... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I loved the fact that there was no choil, you could get your index finger right next to the edge for excellent control for fine cutting.

I'd really like to get my hands on a Scrapivore LE.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" /> Even though it's less suited for more abusive tasks like prying with the tip, I'd never plan on doing so and would love the higher hardness and satin finish!:)

I also want to point out that the 311 handle is exactly the same as the 511 handle, which is a scaled down version of the 711, 911 and 1311 handles.
