I live in earthquake country (Southern California), so I'm always trying to improve my earthquake kit.

Can anyone recommend a good pair of gloves to me? I'm not interested in gloves for the sake of warmth, but rather in case I'm in a situation that I need to help move debris, or worse, help extricate someone from rubble.

I'm looking for something comfortable that I can work in, for long periods of time if need be. I've done some construction in the past with less than stellar gloves, so I can appreciate how a good pair of gloves can really help out. I'm hoping for something that is somewhat common so that I can go to a store and try them on myself before purchasing. I was at Lowe's this morning and tried on a pair of Mechanix that felt pretty good and seemed durable. Are these pretty reputable? Are there any other brands I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance.

I've always just used heavy duty (feeling) leather work gloves. I haven't worried to much about a brand name.

i like the mechanix gloves. for me they are thin enough to be usable yet durable enough for protection

+2 for the Mechanix Wear. I use them for PT, and anything requiring protection.

Thanks again for all the replies everyone! I'll probably end up with the Mechanix. They had a really nice fit, and I'm glad to hear that they are also well built.
