Had a successful hunt this weekend. Way too many knives that I wanted to test for processing...so I played a game of roulette. Day one, the ScrapMax 340 got the call...no dice. Day two, my Gene Ingram was the pick...no dice. Day three, the Basic 04 was in tow when a nice 8 took a dirt nap.

The Basic 04 is factory sharpened, only used a little at the house for food processing. Maybe a few fuzz sticks, can't remember. I hit it with a strop and loaded it for the trip. This knife worked awesome, as expected and as advertised. Where it really shined for me was splitting the breast plate. I have an anorexic model, so it is plenty thick to take a beating. I tried a technique that I've been dreaming of with the Basic 04....and "batoned" through the breast plate so that I could control the blade very precisely. Grabbed about a 12" long, 1.5" diameter piece of wood laying around and started tapping it generously to get it through. Worked like a charm, and a perfect cut with little effort. Not required of course, but it was neat to try.

The little Basic excelled at each dimension. Gutting. Skinning. Processing. This one will be around awhile Obligatory pic for AAR...chest cavity was a little bloody

I'm going on Monday. Still trying to decide if I'm going to take my SS4, RS, or CABS.

Thanks guys. SP...CABS was next up on my rotation, so, I would elect it

The SS4 is just a tad thick, imho...still does a fine job if nice and sharp, but just not "ideal". CABS / B04 thickness is near perfection. I really really wanted to use the ScrapMax, but had to hold true to my standards. Next time...

Good luck on Monday, and be safe.

And...for giggles...

What kind of game is that, Andy?

Very nice, Ishi! .308?

I think I'll bring both my RS and CABS. I think the RS should do well, IT'S NEKKID!

Andy, that's awesome! Fur on that thing looks "puffy". Curious what that is also...

SP...Sounds good. That RS is the same thickness as the SS4, and should shine. The CABS will outpace it though, I suspect Will be good to get your impressions, so be sure to post up your thoughts!

Very nice, I wish I had grabbed one when they came out. I love the chocolate color of the rack. Congrats on the fine hunt.
