So I took my MOAD out hunting with me this weekend. We bagged 3 does and 2 bucks, and I decided to give my MOAD a SERIOUS beating. When breaking down a deer for processing, you have to cut through the pelvis, the breast plate, and all four forelegs, and then cut the head off.

I did this on 5 deer... I was astonished how effective the 1311 was. A deer has a VERY thick neck, and with ONE swing, the head just came off.

Of course, after this kind of beating, there was some damage to the edge. Most of it was rolling, but there were a few very shallow chips.

Considering that this knife was used to hack through some VERY thick bones, i'd say the damage is quite minor.

After 10 minutes on my work sharp, it's back to shaving, and there's almost no sign of the chipping at all.

The MOAD will be a permanent addition to my hunting gear

Awesome report. I beat the hell out of some trees on a trail and didn't have any rolling or chipping, but I know bone is much denser/harder than wood unless you try chopping ebony or other crazy hard wood.

Call me a sicko, but I wish you had video of you lopping off the heads of deer with it. You know, for zombie training video purposes.

I wonder if it will hold up better now being you have removed the initial edge.

Nice report. I remember Chicken Plucker talking about the hardness of deer bones so I think this is very impressive!

i would imagine so... the convex edge seems a bit more stout than the V grind, although i am pretty sure no edge is going to hold up to cutting bones without taking some damage.

we'll see... maybe i'll get to go on another hunt this year.

i think we are all SYKCO's around here JJ... but I was looking to see some gore myself.

i've seen a few how to guides on yt but wouldn't mind some game prep vids and pic threads with busse kin blades.

well, if i can get another hunt, i'll set up a camera, and do a deer skinning video with my Busse Hog Muk and 1311

I tend not to post that kind of stuff online because of the tendency for people to get offended, but if there's a call for it, i'm not opposed

As for zombies... this thing will EASILY take the head off a person. A buck has a much thicker neck than a human, and a single swing will take the neck off a free hanging deer

I usually use a small folding saw for the head and legs.
I have used both a cs norsehawk and gerber pack axe the last few years for the pelvis.
I used the gerber this year on an elk, but I will be going back to the norsehawk, its worked great on deer, elk and moose.

I would suggest to host it somewhere and just post a link on here with the appropriate warning

True true I hope it does and then hit us up with the play by play.

I would like to know how an INFI chopper (B11?) would handle this kind of abuse. I wonder if INFI would manage to take the same beating without any chipping

The chipping on the SR101 was so minimal that it didn't leave a mark on the edge after reprofiling, but as you can see from the pictures, there WAS a little bit of chipping/tearing.
