Well I am having a son in Jan. So the guns will be put on hold and diapers will be the replacement. Now ammo, that is a commodity that I will continue with. Here is the delima I am in. I have a Para FAL and it is going no where. My wife loves the AR platform so I can give her my Colt. I tried the DPMS and Rock River AR's in .308, but found both lacking. I am so comfortable with the AR platform I am wondering if I should go with the new Colt 901 or a POF in an AR platform? I have plenty of ammo in the caliber, more than 5.56mm. Do any of you guys have either one of the above mentioned rifles?

I alo am pretty good with an AK/AKM. Should I say crew the AR in .308, get a good AK/AKM, parts, mags, and ammo for the same price of the AR in .308? I know I have done well in the past with the AK/AKM and maybe a red dot on an Ultimak.

What say you?

I am interested in the Colt 901 and the Patriot. Personally I will probably go for the Colt. Last time I priced the Patriot it was more than Double the price of the Colt. The other issue is the parts are proprietary to each company. Colt will probably still be around in 50 years.

this isnt one of the guns you mentioned but i just wanted to toss it out there. SCAR 17... i held one at a shop a while back and it was perfect! and your advice has been golden to me so i do still wonder your take on the scar.

but from the ones you mentioned the 901 seems to be a good look. maybe get the lower just how you want it and try swapping uppers as the next 18 years or so go by.

I love my FAL, maybe a few little tweeks and call it good but then it will weigh as much as a M240B LOL.

The SCAR does feel nice and well ballanced but the mag issue is a concern I have. FN would have been smart to take the FAL mag and mate it to the SCAR as they would have sold a lot more to us FAL guys.

I probably should just go to the store and buy some diapers LOL.

In 7.62, I have been pleased with the SIG 716, more accurate than my Fal, but both are keepers.
A buddy has the POF and has had problems with the gas pistons lack of adjustment.
If you don't have one of the better AK's, get one while you can. Magazines and ammo availability are very good right now.

scar would've been perfect if it took fal mags. another member on here pointed out to me that theres a company working on new scar 17 lowers. I only glanced over it but but it will allow the scar 17 to use a more commonly avaiable mag. I think it's ar10 mags...

Andy, I am a man and I get it................I was just thinking of a pipe dream more or less. The PARA FAL is going no where. In fact, I need to get a PARA rear sight and try it on a fixed lower I have--hopefully it will be close enough that I can just swap lowers out. Best of both worlds is a fixed to PARA with a change of the lower, carrier, and dust cover.
