I use a 22 inch Martindale parang for grass and coconuts. Works well but can't handle the big stuff the way that I would like. Plus, with a machete, you are sharpening it constantly. I have a Junglas and a RAT-7 that are just too small. I hope that the 1311, if choked up, will do a great job on cocnuts. Especially when you split them in half for the jelly.
I hope that I will never try to cut grass with one. Not enough reach and too many rocks here in the mountains. It sounds like you're going with 1311 + machete. That is an interesting surprise. Maybe I'll end up with 1311 + kukri + machete

I've had "real" kukri's, kukri machete's, and other kukri like objects -- I voted for my 1311.

Nice pic JJ <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Now replace that with your Rattlehawk <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I don't have a Rattehawk <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
That thing has deployed to two warzones, so I doubt it'll be getting replaced anytime soon. It isn't mine. A buddy, infantryman, wanted a wrap on the handle, so I have it for the weekend. Got to give it back Monday <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Chop off with a 1311 and DF before I give it back?

I wouldn't pay $400 for it, but he was issued the thing on his first deployment.
I was issued a benchmade automatic. Not fair.

I went with 1311. I haven't got mine yet, but from all the reviews I've seen here and other places, it's light and very capable. Agreed, there are some things that the Kukri excels at, but maintenance isn't as easy as it is with a long straight blade.
Didn't go for ammo 'cos I'm in the UK. When I am issued ammo, there's never enough to consider extra!

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

No way. Just the 1311 and a smaller blade. Any good machete will take an edge sharp enough for banana leaves, timari, softwood, etc. You swing slightly off the vertical and can clear miles of trail with it. Try to cut down a tree or take of larger limbs and you will be chopping all day. I always carry a large folder but plan to switch to the 411 when mine gets here. Can you clear miles of trail with the 1311?
