After each use they were washed and dried well. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I don't have any Elmax, YET......
BUT, I will add to this thread by saying that all steels can stain/rust and the term "Stainless" is really quite misleading.
I guess "Stain Resistant" just doesn't have the same ring to it....
 My $.02, (adjusted for inflation)

Yeah I understand that it's not garenteed but the one knife did it after one use and the other after a fair amount. It won't keep me from using them but some of the cheaper stainless stuff I have hasn't stained after the same use. I guess I was mostly surprised

Mine has done that. Doesn't bother me none since the deer don't seem to care But yes, it is a little surprising that elmax seems to be more prone to staining. Rusting? No, but a little bit more so on the staining.

The reason the cheap stuff doesnt stain is it is made of real stainless that stinks for knifes, well at least isnt as good as elmax for knifes. Its all in the make up and sometimes finish GD put those cheap SS knifes against the elmax and see how they stack up as knifes.
PS looks like a good reason to practice your forced patina.

Yeah the cheap ones don't work as well on deer. I really don't mind I was just wondering since it seems other companies elmax don't seem to stain as easly.

Cutting performance always has to be compromised for greater stain resistance. I carried an ELMAX folder for a year and never had a stain. The scrap max in my kitchen does need a dry to prevent discoloration, but it always washed clean again if I put it away wet.

I really don't mind the color. After all these are some if the best skinning/ butchering blades I've ever used. Several dozen geese gutted a doe, gutted skinned and butchered another and they are still shaving sharp. I couldn't do that with my gerber gator or my kabar
