You'd use it for the same the the rest of us would. Charging rhinos. They are more and more prevalent these days...

Glad I'm not the only one obsessing about that threat. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Deer at night, max of 250~300 yards (longer if I can find a gun-mountable light that will illuminate out to 500+ yards <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> ), scoped, no suppressor (as fun as that would be, can't see paying the $1k+ for that at this point). Pluses/minuses of either?

DT...why do you need a Picatinny on the bottom? Do you have a QD bipod?

Depending on your sling type...

For traditional sling: http://www.seekinsprecision.com/sling-rail-system-2.html

For slings with QD flush cups (this is the one I have): http://www.accu-shot.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=64

Not sure how I missed this post. Looks good. Thanks Ish!

Thanks to this post, I started looking at "upgraded" AR15 cartridges. And now I have a 6.8 spc.

I am going to go shoot it this weekend. Actually, it will be my son who will use it for big game this fall. He's nine, so the mild recoil and adjusting stock will be perfect.

I love high velocity rounds, (.204 ruger, 460 S&W (fast for revolvers), .257 weatherby magnum, .243 win) so, the 6.8 is quite the departure from that. But, good placement on medium size game at moderate distances with the right bullet selection, the .270 "lite" will do it's job. And, in a handy 18" fluted barrel, it's quick and light compared to a standard cartridge in the AR10 platform.

I actually think that the 300 blackout round will become more popular, but I like the slight, ballistic advantage of the 6.8 spc II

The 6.8 shot well. The first group (3 shots at 100 yds off a backpack) was well under an inch. Most of my three shot groups were right at 1 inch. I shot a quick 6 shot group (I meant to keep it at 5, but lost count) right at 1.5 inches. Recoil was fine for me, but definately more than a .556. My son could tell the difference right off the bat.

For what it will be used for, (medium size game at moderate distances) it will do just fine for my boy.

I was using the 110 bthp. The maximum point blank range is right at 250 yards with the 110's. It still delivers 1000 lbs of energy at that range. I will probably move up to the Hornady 120gr SSTs for the better bullet construction. I hope the 1/11 twist will keep good groups with those bullets.

For me, this rifle is going to be used primarily as a hunting rifle. The light recoiling, adjustable stock, semi-auto loading, accurate, reliable and "handy" nature of this platform in a big game capable cartridge make it a good overall fit.
