Does anyone use chromium oxide and a leather strop to sharpen there Scrapper's.If so do you get good results.Thanks

Yes, and yes. I have a coated version though, and the stropping compound tends to get into the coating. Comes right out with some duct tape taped on and pulled off though.

Yes. As I posted on another thread, I use a double sided strop with sandpaper taped to one side and the chromium oxide loaded on the other side. Hold the blade in place and push the strop over the edge at a low angle. Sharp enough to shave hair on my arm.

(As I am sharpening challenged I nearly didn't post ...) I use a white ceramic stick (as per Jerry's suggestion) and strop by 'dragging' the edge lightly over it, if the profile is about right it'll get a smooth near razor edge.. I strop on a ceramic stick too. But, that’s after I sharpen on it. After I sharpen, I strop to align and straighten the thinnest part of the edge. Then I strop it on a plain leather belt to help polish the edge and remove micro burrs etc. I’d use compound, but have never gotten around to getting any. I’ve not noticed it for sale at gunshows, and I don’t want to order it and pay $8 or so shipping for one item when that’s about what the compound would cost. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Andy, the compound is completely worth it, and works much better than one would expect. 16 bucks isn't much for what amounts to a 10 year supply of green or black stropping compound. It works exponentially better than plain leather alone.

So it's a much better, sharper edge than just ceramic/leather huh...hmmm...maybe I should look into getting some. As it is now, I can get my knives shaving sharp, but not hair-popping sharp. What's the best color to get? Green?

black is 10 micron, and green is 2-3 if i remember correctly. I could be mistaken on the exact number but black is more coarse relative to the green.
