So I pulled the trigger on the 711 back before the price got corrected and just finished the sheath last week. Holy cow that was a lot of work. Respect for all those leather workers out there. And this is relatively lightweight leather. I can't imagine what 8-9 oz is gonna be like. The next one should be easier for me cause I learned from some of the mistakes I made with this one.

Wore it on a small walk in the wetlands by our place and it felt great. It carries high, but I like that for day hikes, walks, etc. I'm thinking of adding a dangler for backpacking. Does anyone know how secure a dangler would be with 2 snaps or should I stitch/rivet it?

I'll post couple more pics later.

Nice job on your first sheath. You could use a ring and another belt loop with snaps to make a dangler.

Thanks,do you think any ring from a crafts store would work, or something a little sturdier?

I use the welded/nickle plated rings or stainless steel from a boat shop. They cost about $1 each for the plated.

Depending on your area, you might try a bull ring from your local farm or livestock supply store.

2 snaps will hold it fine. For a D ring you can get them anywhere but some of them are pretty light. Like the Wal-Mart ones. Hobby Lobby should have some. Tractor supply where I live has nice brass ones with the horse tack.

Nice, thanks for the info, I'll check out some tack and feed stores and a marine supply store. See what they have. I don't want to be hiking along and have my dangler dangle a bit too much, if you get my meaning. HA!

2" D-rings work great.
so do the 2" rectangular ones if you can find them.
If you're worried about the snaps letting go on accident, get some Chicago screws
not as easy to remove on short notice, but a lot less chance of them letting go in the middle of hiking through heavy brush.
