No, I haven't blued it, that's just whatever is under the coating. Someone on BF was saying it's decarb?

No, I haven't blued it, that's just whatever is under the coating. Someone on BF was saying it's decarb? Correct..standard SR-101 look under the coating. Question: Is that a Hamon line? You mentioned the knife hadn't been used to chop as of the initial pictures....it looks like there's a bit of a heat treat difference between the blade edge and the spine of the blade. Could you take some closer pictures along the length of the edge highlighting that variation? If you can tell, is it inherent to the metal, or is that a patina caused by cutting something else? Any feedback would be great. If you confirm it was already there, and you did not apply it in some fashion.....I may have to strip mine just for principle...and see if it also has the same.

Ishi, I think that in the first post he said it was where the finish had worn off. YUP, third picture down from the top. Read the caption.

Ishi, I think that in the first post he said it was where the finish had worn off. YUP, third picture down from the top. Read the caption. Ahhh, makes sense now. I read the comment of "haven't chopped with it yet" as an absolute statement when it was intended to mean "he hasn't chopped with it since the coating was stripped". Reading comprehension ftw. Thanks Randy! BTW - 1311 Stripper looks GOOOD!!!

A Hamon line would be cool. Yeah, that's what I meant, that I hadn't chopped with it since stripping the coating off.
Is the under layer decarb? I was planning on getting some scotch brite and taking it off whenever I go into town next, but now I'm worried about it. Well, a tiny bit worried, the gun and knife wax seems to work pretty well. I was out chopping with it yesterday and got rained on and didn't clean it off and re-wax it when I got back inside and there's no beginnings of corrosion...

Thanks for the glimpse under the hood. Now I don't have to strip mine out of curiosity.

looks good. ghetto satin, a convex edge, and some plum brown or cold blue would look awesome.

Love it now if I could just get mine to play with.

You shouldn't play with it by yourself, you should get someone to help you.
