I have noticed the 911 doesn't get much love around here, especially compared to the almighty 1311. Well so far based on my tests, yes, the 1311 is a brute and deserves all the accolades it gets. A phenomenal chopper. HOWEVER, if I could only have one knife, and it was between one or the other? For me the 911 is a much better all-arounder, no question.
For those who missed out on the 1311 offer, the 911 chops quite nicely, thank you very much. And you can use it to cut up your meat at the end of the day. IMHO (which isn't worth much), I feel that the 1311 is a specialized knife ("one-trick pony") and can't match the versatility of the 911.

I'll second the notion of the 911 being a more well rounded blade. If I could only have one, I would likely choose the 911 over the 1311 because of this. But, if I was pairing it up with a 4-6" belt knife the 1311 would be a no brainer.
I strongly believe that 9-10" blades make for the best all-rounders, ESPECIALLY when they weigh roughly 16 oz. AND have a nice forward balance like the 911.
One thing I will disagree with you upon is your statement about the 1311 being a one trick pony, as it should be more capable than the 911. The 1311 is basically a heavy machete, which have long been known to be very versatile tool. I believe what you were getting it is that it will be too unwieldy to do the finer tasks without difficulty.
Probably my two favorite Scrap Yard blades currently, can't really go wrong with either of them if you got them at factory or better pricing. Two thumbs up!!

Dunno, just used my 1311 to split some wood ( used it like an axe, didn't even need to baton with it) , then used it to make fuzzy sticks to start the fire.

Using a 1311 takes a bit of use to understand, just like a machete. Saying that, enough time with any tool and you can figure all kinds of task that can be performed with it--intended and unintended. Eventually I am going to pair a Swamp Warden or Scrapivore to my 1311 to finish it out. Saying all this I have not used my 911 much but plan to change that real soon so I may change my mind but I am basing this assumption off the DF and DFLE.

The BATTLE RAT is my favorite knife of all!!!! Which is basically a 911 with a round choil. Pair it with a 4" belt knife like a Howling Rat and I can live any where in the world.

The Basic 11 would be second then the 1311. The 1311 is a all out chopping machine!!!!! But it's a bit big to carry if that's a concern to ya

Fond FW: You make some great points. However, if your belt knife catastrophically snaps in half, what is your backup? Would you then want to rely on your 1311 as your primary knife for all tasks?
My EDC is a RMD. Love love love it. But I am a redundancy freak and I have to consider, if my favorite tool is destroyed, what do I have left to fill the void? The 911 is a perfect backup. Big enough for chopping, small enough for finesse work.

Have a look out in the net. I've seen a vid of a guy processing and filleting fish with a 8-10" khukri. Other had people in south Asia doing just about anything with a parang. Tool is a tool, you need to know how to use it.

Yup, folks would be surprised what can be done with a Big OR Little knife if they really need it for survival. A knife and a firestarter will provide food, shelter, fire and even water (If you have to dig for it).
