Yes. Does that ever work? Is Dan swayed by the opinion of his dogs?

My MO 511 doesn't have a choil.

Well, it has a flat spot that essentially functions as a choil. It forces the edge to be further away from the index finger. If you want the edge to be closer you must choke up on the flat, which IMO is not a very safe place to put your index finger. Not to mention it would not be comfortable using in this manner for very long.

I suppose, but I don't find my index finger being THAT far away from the edge. I'd say the handle design keeps my finger further away from the edge than that little choil-like flat spot.

I think choils have their place, but in any blade over 5" the choil seems to be a waste. Bussekin's use of choils seems to be a design element more than for actual use.

Personal preference. Since they seem to sell I'd guess there's enough that like them OR don't dislike them enough to pass on them. Could also be that it's cheaper to produce them that way and it helps keep costs down.

Smart, successful businessmen always listen to their customers. And I would classify the Busse clan as both smart and successful.

I think choils have their place, just not on every knife or blade.
