With DT's scenario in mind, a ONE knife solution would be the way to go, in any case. I wouldn't want to carry a bunch of steel in a Bug out situation.
And actually I would not bring a knife bigger than the RMD unless I had a vehicle...

Well, My Cold Steel swords have a 30" and a 36" blade...great long reach but a bugger to carry for long!
