Only a couple times with my uncle when I was a wee lad.

My dad grew up trapping, did it for years and years until he got too old to get around. I know a little just from helping him out. Main thing I remember is that you don't put both thumbs in the trap at the same time. laugh

Most of what we did was river trapping for muskrats.

I trapped rabbits as a kid, still have the traps (stored up the bush at my mate's place) and know how to use them if the need arises... smile

I used to help an old trapper when I was a kid. We trapped coyotes and bobcats. I don't really have anything to offer here other than trapping is a lot more intimate than just lining up the crosshairs.

I used to trap for beaver and mink. I still have a few traps. I don't have enough time to run a line daily though.

I am looking for the experience and time in the field. There is not a lot of good public land, and what is available is so regulated by the state. I will update when I do get out this winter.

Coon is pretty easy and Beaver isn't bad if you can water trap. A conibear does the trick nicely.

I have a lake in the back yard and a muskrat infestation a few years back. Started to trap them when I noticed two submerged holes along the bank bordering the lake.
I used a pair of box traps (4"-6") and placed them right at the opening of the holes, un-baited. I checked them in the morning and evening and in the first year I took out 38 of the critters from those two holes. The second year I got 24 before the bank started caving in. Even got a catfish once, but I practiced catch and release on him.
I had to rebuild the bank and rip-rap the shoreline to finally get rid of those pests.
