I'd go 50 feet on the 550 cord. Its enough to make a drag litter (doubles as a sleep seat), and so forth.
I carry 100 feet most of the time.
Regarding 550 cord...only buy 7-Strand.

I've been told to stay away from the "QuikClot Combat Granules" because the granules are difficult to clean out.
What kind of work gloves are you using?
Replace all your shoe strings with 7-strand 550 cord, too. 50 feet of cordage disappears faster than you think, carry as much as you comfortably can, then double it.
Used to go commando (no underpants) in the Army when in hot environments. But socks? There's nothing better that clean dry socks.
No camo, florecent, or glow in the dark/reflective clothing. I prefer dark brown/blue (NOT black) for get out of town clothes. No writing or logos on the clothes either.
I prefer a p-51 can opener over a p-38 also.

The QC Granules require surgical removal, but if it means the difference between bleeding out or needing to find a vet (animal doctor...) after the fact...
The 550 laces is a good tip. I picked that one up from Mike Hawk's book.
+1000 on socks. Foot powder is good if you need it, but clean dry socks (enough to rotate two pair on your pack for dry out) is the difference between being happy and miserable.
The P51 is better (bigger) but a little harder to come by for some reason?
Great post - thanks.

I carry both sponges and granules. The benefit of the granules is: it'll close off an arterial bleeder that a sponge can't reach.
The granules use an exothermic reaction to "fuse" the wound. This in a deep, but narrow injury could be all that is available to stop an arterial bleed-out. Tourniquets can be used also, but require constant monitoring (to prevent limb loss) and can't be used on non-extremity wounds.
