Where I am the pine beetle isn't bad. Just north of us its been devastating.
The prinarily affect lodgepole pines. The cold from last year killed a bunch of them off. Hopefully it will again this year. It has to be very cold for a long time to kill them though.

We have had a series of warmer then normal winters for over a decade now
We really need either a long cold snap or the other thing that kills them is a warm spring that has a sudden short cold snap

We had warm winters and drought for 10 years. There are millions of acres that have been hit hard by beetles.
